Beginning Sunday THIS May 20th (two Sundays from now), we are making a few changes to the layout of our Sundays.

First, we will be combining our services into one at 10:30 a.m.

In addition, we are now offering another opportunity to connect with our Breakfast & Bible Fellowship.

Here are some details about the Breakfast & Bible Fellowship: beginning at 8:45am in the Pink Room (next to Base Camp), we will be eating, talking about God, and praying together. Feel free to bring your whole family, but childcare is not provided.

The Breakfast & Bible Fellowship is not a class. It is a casual time of community, talking about God! There won’t be any homework. Each week stands on it’s own, so if you miss one you won’t get behind.

Come to the Breakfast & Bible Fellowship prior to our shared service and get your gears moving ready to express as we worship together at 10:30 a.m. starting THIS Sunday, May 20th!

Don’t forget, this Sunday we begin a new schedule. We will combine services to one service at 10:30 a.m. We are also adding a new opportunity to connect with the Breakfast & Bible Fellowship at 8:45 in the Pink Room (next to Base Camp).

This week we read Chapter 13 of The Story, “The King Who Had It All.” If David was a warrior, Solomon was a builder. If David cleared the ground, Solomon filled it.

Solomon built buildings. He took the treasures David had collected and formed them into a glorious temple. He built himself a grand palace. He built stables for his many horses and chariots. He built storehouses for his vast wealth.

But Solomon also built altars to foreign gods. he built a harem and family of wives that led him to sacrifice on those altars. Even as he was building structures and systems that could strengthen his kingdom, he was building practices that would destroy it.

Solomon was a builder, but his building came at a great cost– the eventual breaking of a nation.

In this series, Game of Thrones, we follow the changing throne. We see the story of these kings are the imperfect stories of humans. But, we also see God’s story unfolding throughout their human experience.

Let’s continue the conversation this Sunday at our Celebration Service- 10:30 a.m.- as we continue Game of Thrones!

This podcast is week 3 of Game of Thrones!

For this podcast, we read Chapter 12 of The Story, “The Trials of A King.” We will see that:

Not even a king is above the law, and what is done in secret will one day be revealed.

When called out for our sin, the only proper response is honest repentance.

Our sins can be forgiven, but that does not mean the consequences will be erased.

This story is tragic. For one moment of pleasure, David compromises everything. he loses his integrity, and he leaves broken lives in his wake. Although the Lord granted him forgiveness, David lives with the consequences of his sin for the rest of his reign.

In every story we have read so far, we have seen there is no such thing as the perfect person. In the end, each of the heroes in Scripture does something to perpetuate the brokenness ushered in by Adam and Eve.

In this series, Game of Thrones, we follow the changing throne. We see the story of these kings are the imperfect stories of humans. But, we also see God’s story unfolding throughout their human experience.

If you are local, consider joining us on a Sunday for our Celebration Service- 10:30 a.m. at the Life Journey Christian Church Ministry Center (4100 Easton Dr.) where we continue the conversation about this Game of Thrones!

If you missed our Sunday together, consider watching the video on your own. It will change the way you do and look at church: “How to Go to Church“.

We come back to our series Game of Thrones in this podcast! To prepare for your time of listening, read Chapter 11 of The Story, “From Shepherd to King.” The image of David dancing before the ark with wild abandon, uninhibited and unconcerned with his reputation, produces a sharp contrast to the pictures that many have of what a king’s behavior should be.

David trusted the Lord and gave himself wholly to him. Waiting for the kingship, or the temple, or anything else the Lord might have was all right with David, because he knew the Lord would provide the best.

Not by coincidence, the story of David sounds a lot like our message in “How to Go to Church“. Listen expectantly to this podcast and exalt the name of Jesus as we continue Game of Thrones!

In this podcast from Life Journey, we begin Game of Thrones!

We read Chapter 10 of The Story, “Standing Tall, Falling Hard.” What makes Samuel, his mother before him, and the shepherd he will soon anoint so special andunique is one key characteristic: they nurture a dependency on the Lord.

In this section of the story, we see Hannah pouring her heart out to God, trusting him for a child. We meet Samuel, a faithful leader and prophet, willing to respond to the Lord’s direction. And, as we will soon see, David is a man after God’s own heart, just as ready to break down in repentance at the Lord’s convicting voice as he is to break out in celebration and worship.

And as C.S. Lewis once said, each of us will either bend our knee in submission and say “Thy will be done, Lord,” or we will hear God say to us on the day of judgment, “Thy will be done.” The story of the first kings of Israel illustrates this fundamental choice.

The book called The Story is an abridged chronological Bible. Our goal in reading The Story is to become knowers of God’s Word. Get the most out of The Story by reading our chapter each week. And by the end of the year, you will have read through the entire narrative portions of the Bible! And if you aren’t a reader, you can listen to The Story with their audio book version!

In this podcast, we finish Terra Nova and look together at Chapter 9 of The Story, “The Faith of a Foreign Woman”. This snapshot of two women struggling to survive and a faithful man committed to doing the right thing is even more stunning when it is set and examined in its historical context. The events described take place duringthe time of the judges.

The book of Judges closes with two stories, each focused on unfaithful Levites. In one a Levite lives as a prominent idol worshiper. In the second a Levite gives his concubine to be raped and murdered by fellow Israelites intent on sodomizing him. The message of these concluding stories is clear: Israel is in a bad state. And irony of ironies: a Moabite woman knows how to live for the Lord even when Israelites do not!
