• God never forgets his promises or His people.
• He responds when they cry out for help.
• Pharaohs are no match for God’s power!
• The Passover is a picture of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross for the people of God.
• God wants His people to remember His deliverance so they will trust Him in the future.

Throughout 2012, we will read through the Bible. We will begin this Sunday with Parenthood, our journey in Genesis and Exodus! From Genesis to Revelation, we will come to understand God’s story and how our stories intersect with it.

The Bible contains an Upper Story and a Lower Story. The Upper Story tells us the big picture, the grand narrative of God unfolding throughout history. The Lower Story contains the sometimes delightful, other times appalling particulars of the human experience.

It is our hope that everyone who joins this journey becomes knowers of the Bible- where our knowledge of God’s Upper Story empowers us to get through the hard times in life, beyond any Lower Story information.

For both those new to the Bible as well as those seasoned, The Story will help us see Scripture in a holistic and sequential picture to see how the Bible fits together in a single grand narrative.

In this podcast, we wrap up our series Take It Off, Take It All Off (based in Hebrews 12). This particular podcast, we discuss taking off the weight of childish things.

“When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.” (1 Corinthians 13:11, NIV)  In this podcast, we will also look at the importantce of growth in being a disciple of Jesus Christ and distinguish the difference between childlike and childish.

In this series, we are focusing on the idea of taking it off – getting rid of the stuff and the sin that slows us down and trips us up. We hope that everyone will be encouraged not to set goals but to set aside – to set aside the hurts, habits, and hang-ups that prevent us from being the people God created and redeemed us to be.

As you prepare for this podcast, read and think over these Scriptures: 1 Corinthians 14:20 & Ephesians 4:14-15.

Many of us are familiar with this Scripture, found in the begining of Romans 12 in the Bible. But when it comes to the patterns we’ve developed in our thought life, it’s easyto get stuck in cycles of stinkin’ thinking.

In this podcast, we are in Take It Off, Take It All Off (our series based in Hebrews 12). This particular Sunday, we look at how wrong thinking and belief systems can be a weight that slows us down.

This podcast is the beginning of our series Take It Off, Take It All Off which is based on this command of Scripture found in the book of Hebrews:

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.”

As you probably know, the New Year is a traditional time for people to re-evaluate their lives and set goals to do things differently in the year to come. Most often we do this by setting goals for things we’d like to do or change. And most often we fail in those goals within the first few months of a new year.

This Sunday as we introduce the series, we will focus on Hebrews 12 and the idea of taking it off – getting rid of the stuff and the sin that slows us down and trips us up. We hope that everyone will be encouraged not to set goals but to set aside – to set aside the hurts, habits, and hang-ups that prevent us from being the people God created and redeemed us to be.
